Drawing

Last fall, I began to draw, reassured by people who told me that I could, that learning to see was more important than whatever natural talent I might have. These were my first attempts:

You can see how much I have to learn!

Mates

Mates

born on horseback
in a flash of lightning,
black hair
straight to his waist,
standing calmly,
rocks & snow peaks
of the Dhauladhar
high above

eight years later
in a Seattle cafe,
an almond-skinned Asian
hawk woman
swings her pack onto a table,
scans the room—
compassion, disdain,
none here
would dare her

her natural mate
is out there,
in the cold pure air
